Summary
BIOTEC was born in 1984 in Belgium. The main objective was to create conceptual tools, technologies and methods adapted to Tropical regions for wastewater treatment (farming, agro-industrial and urban sectors) and organic solid waste management. The other goal was to use the sub-products generated by decontamination processes as energetic sources and agro-industrial inputs. These objectives were achieved throughout three main technologies: Anaerobic water treatment (leading to biogas generation), Aerobic composting and Ferti-irrigation. |
| Products & Services - Biodigestors (covered lagoons, UASB reactors and contact biodigestor) - Wastewater treatment plants - Composting plants - Ferti-irrigation systems

Agro Industrial Effluents
- Efluents with high organic loads
Palm Oil Mill industry, Alcohol breweries (bio-ethanol production) and Farm producing large amounts of liquid manure (cattle or pigs). - Diluted Effluents
Slaughterhouses, rendering plants, paper industry, sugar mills, coffee processing industries, yeast and milk processing industry’s effluents.

Urban Wastewater BIOTEC has developed throughout the years a waste water system with low investment costs (30 to 60 US$ per inhabitant). Likewise operation and maintenance costs are also very low (1 to 2 US$ per inhabitant per year). However the system only operates for waste water temperatures above 15°C (all year long). This technology is typically “tropical region” orientated and its main applications are to be found in Latin America and India. |
| Palm Oil Mills Palm oil mills generate an effluent highly contaminated with organic matter (COD around 50.000 mg/L) |
