Anaerobic treatment of effluent with a high sulphate concentration (vinasses
obtained from molasses) for approximately US$ 110,000 per ton of COD on
a "turnkey" basis).
A typical plant for a yeast producing factory includes:
- Regulation and homogenization tank
- Pumping station
- Addition of nutrients and soda
- UASB reactors
- Degasifier
- Lamella Clarifier
- Biological sulphide removal unit (transformation into elemental sulphur)
- Gasometer and biological filter to remove the H2S from the biogas
- Cellar, machine room, laboratory, office
- Optional: Use of the biogas in the factory (boiler – steam and
electricity generation)
For distilleries and large plants, BIOTEC
designs covered anaerobic ponds, with biogas recovery and use. This low
cost system is used when space is available.
